Sensata Technologies, Inc. Mechanical Design Engineer, RADAR in Attleboro, Massachusetts
Sensata is innovating new sensing solutions for autonomous vehicles and machines. Together with leading global customers, we are developing next generation sensing technologies and products that significantly improve the safety, performance, reliability and costs of autonomous systems - and the next generation of vehicles and machines that use them. Sensata is currently looking for a passionate and talented engineer to work with our team on evaluating new technology and applications for Sensata. This engineer will research, design and implement concepts to evaluate novel and disruptive solutions that will contribute to the technology roadmap for the company.
The Mechanical Design Engineer works individually, with a local team or global engineering team on product design which satisfy customer specifications. This process includes design, product validation, completing documentation and executing launch items for production. Complete all related drawings, documentations (including DFMEA) and release in internal systems.
Support NPD Design projects
Perform design verification on original and/or derivative design ideas using analytical and experimental methods e.g. FEA & FMEA
Development testing, engineering analysis, qualification testing, production launch
Resolves problems through the use of engineering fundamentals. Executes Design/Process Validation (DV/PV) testing
Complete Failure Analysis investigations and engineering evaluations
Maintain product documentation (drawings and specifications) and lessons learned
Interacts with customers to solicit product specifications requirements, schedule expectations and budget
Learning about in-house and supplier manufacturing technologies
Become familiar with customer systems where our parts are used
Present status reports during Design Reviews to senior leaders which highlight content of design, gaps, next steps and areas for discussion.
A college degree and 2-4 years of experience (i.e. Bachelors degree) or a graduate degree and 0-2 years of experience (i.e. Masters degree)
Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.
Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation
Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results.
Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity
Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers.
Proficient user of CAD/3D solid modeling tools Solid Works preferred
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, mechanics, fluid, thermo and heat transfer
Basic knowledge of basic electrical circuits, microelectronic assembly, statistical methods, process control fundamentals and product test processes
Basic understanding of RF circuits, system design, and wave propagation
Experience with antenna design for radar or communication systems
Experience designing heatsinks or thermal management components
Experience with CAN, Ethernet, SPI, and UART protocols
Experience designing sensors for automotive, construction, or agricultural applications
Experience with Matlab, C++, and Python programming languages
