OSI Systems, Inc. Senior Research Scientist in Andover, Massachusetts

Rapiscan Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of OSI Systems, Inc. designs, manufactures and markets security and inspection systems worldwide.   • Provide technical oversight to internal R&D projects and New Product Introduction (NPI)/New Technology Introduction (NTI) efforts

  • Provide technical management and direction to scientists or other team members as assigned

  • Work closely with cross functional engineers and developers to ensure a path for adoption and productization of detection technologies

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on hardware and system design

  • Interact with cross functional teams to provide guidance, feedback, and ensure efforts are well aligned with technology roadmap

  • Assist in identifying, attracting, hiring, and retaining the best talent suitable for ongoing projects

  • Work closely with other technical leads and program/product managers to provide guidance and technical expertise on key activities centered on chemical detection

  • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.

  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in chemistry, physics, or engineering with at least 5 years of relevant experience

  • Must display expertise in designing, assembling, prototyping, and troubleshooting custom built system hardware, specifically mass spectrometers and/or ion mobility spectrometers

  • Considerable industrial experience focusing on system design and prototyping

  • Experience in technical leadership/mentoring; also previous experience serving as a technical team lead or Principal Investigator for externally funded contracts is preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in product development with a proven track record of bringing concept designs to product and the ability to lead teams through this process

  • Experience with vacuum chamber systems, electronics and associated diagnostic hardware (HV probe, oscilloscope etc.), mechanical design software (SolidWorks or similar), and CFD/ion flow modeling software

  • Ability to work with teams inside and outside engineering in a collaborative and productive fashion

  • Proven track record of innovation through key products, patents, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications

  • Experience writing and submitting government research proposals for product development funding

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; equal ability to take direction and delegate effectively
