MKS Instruments Inc Senior Mechanical Engineer in Andover, Massachusetts

A Day in Your Life at MKS: (Summary & Objectives)

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer within the Direct Pressure Group, you will work on designing, analyzing and testing advanced vacuum sensing technologies used primarily for the semiconductor market. This will be a dynamic role with a high degree of independence and ownership of various efforts relating to sensor design optimization. You will report to the Engineering Manager within the Sensor group and work alongside one other Principal Mechanical Engineer.

You Will Make an Impact By: (Responsibilities)

  • Assist in the development of new pressure sensors from concept, through validation and qualification

  • Create and review precision mechanical designs; create engineering drawings, perform dimensional analyses and tolerance studies

  • Perform structural, thermal, and multi-physics modeling of designs; validate models through experimentation

  • Help develop test plans and execute laboratory experiments to evaluate performance of new products

  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations teams to develop and incorporate DFM best practices

  • Perform data analysis of various sensor and transducer performance metrics

Skills You Bring: (Required Skills)

  • Bachelors’ degree, Mechanical Engineering, or similar scientific degree. Advanced degree preferred

  • Experience with high precision products and complex manufacturing processes. Knowledge in the area of vacuum and pressure measurements is ideal

  • Minimum of 4 years of mechanical engineering design experience within a manufacturing environment

  • Experience with 2D/3D CAD (SolidWorks) and preferred experience with Finite Element Analysis (SolidWorks Simulation, COMSOL etc.) software to support mechanical, thermal, and structural analysis

  • Capability to focus on goals and accomplish them while working with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical support personnel

  • Knowledge of vacuum technology preferred, particularly with sensors (Capacitance Diaphragm Gauges, Ion gauges, etc.)

  • Data analysis proficiency using Excel, Matlab, Python, etc.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
