Raytheon Technologies Senior Environmental Test Engineer in Andover, Massachusetts

The Mechanical Products Team (MPT) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The MPT uses state-of-the-art tools, processes technology and Raytheon Six Sigma principles.

The Environmental Test Section of the Rapid Hardware Solutions Department is responsible for planning, performing, and reporting on structural, dynamic, static, climatic, modal testing, and other related Environmental Tests.

The types of Environmental Tests include: Proof of Design, Risk Mitigation, Proof of Manufacturing, Qualification and Engineering Tests on operating and non-operating hardware.

Additionally, Environmental Test Section personnel develop environmental stress screening requirements and provide rapid response factory production support. The Environmental Test Section’s recent growth has caused a need for additional engineering depth.

The Environmental Test Section is looking for an individual to perform the role of Senior Environmental Test Engineer.

This position is located on-site in Andover, MA

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Perform instrumentation planning and test conduct of all Environmental Tests including vibration, mechanical shock, temperature, altitude, humidity, and structural testing

  • Dynamic and thermal data acquisition and analysis

  • Provide test fixture design coordination

  • Work independently and take ownership of program/project to achieve schedule, financial, and technical goals

  • Prepare test plans, schedules, test reports, and technical documentation of project work assigned

  • Work directly with design engineering, structural analysis personnel, manufacturing engineering, and commercial customers

  • Mentor and provide test guidance to junior section members

  • Provide technical expertise to programs as needed

  • Factory and supplier testing support domestically and internationally

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

  • 5 years Environmental Test background, with vibration, shock, and thermal test experience required

  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude and willingness to work in a lab environment

  • Experience with Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) vibration and thermal profile development

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Signal processing, data acquisition, field test instrumentation, or structural testing

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

  • Willingness to travel to domestic Raytheon sites, suppliers, and government facilities

Qualifications We Value:

  • Proficiency with Siemens LMS Simcenter/Test.Lab and Unholtz-Dickie vibration control systems/software

  • Strong working knowledge of specifications and requirements with the ability to report compliance for Thermal and Vibration ESS, HALT, and HASS testing

  • Proficiency in Modal Test execution

  • Experience using military standards including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-202, MIL-STD-883 MIL-STD-167, and MIL-STD-901

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Project)

  • Skilled in project management with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects

  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to resolve technical issues

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Willingness for international travel to Middle East, Asia, and Europe to foreign sites, suppliers, and facilities
