Lockheed Martin Senior Applied Electrochemist / Research Scientist / Andover, MA in Andover, Massachusetts

Description: Lockheed Martin Energy is commercializing best-in-class, grid-scale energy storage devices to support renewable energy integration and grid modernization. The flow battery is based on a novel battery chemistry comprising aqueous metal-ligand coordination compounds.

-We are seeking an experienced Applied Electrochemist / Research Scientist to drive the development and testing of the technology to enable longer battery cycle life at higher efficiency.

-In this exciting role the Applied Electrochemist will have the opportunity to work closely with a team of chemists and chemical engineers in technology development and scaleup.

-The electrochemist will have the opportunity to lead projects that contribute to cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and root cause investigation of battery systems.

-The electrochemist will have the opportunity to use electrochemical modeling to develop understanding of fundamental processes underpinning battery system performance.

-The electrochemist will have the opportunity to design experiments and interpret test results to validate models and improve system designs.

-The electrochemist will have the opportunity to mentor less experienced team members.

-The electrochemist will have the opportunity to attend industry conferences and to keep up-to-date on related industry best practices and technological advancements.

-The ideal candidate will have experience in development of electrochemical systems (batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers, solar cells) and experience with electrochemical device fabrication, testing, and diagnostics.

This position requires US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident for facility access.

Basic Qualifications:

-PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Applied Physics, or related discipline, or a Masters Degree in one of the above fields with minimum of 5 years industrial experience.

-Demonstrated, hands-on experience in development and scaleup of electrochemical systems.

-Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.

Desired Skills:

-Experience operating, testing, and/or troubleshooting electrochemical systems (such as electrolyzers or flow batteries), and familiarity with their related process equipment (including pumps, piping, instrumentation, and safety equipment).

-Related industrial experience would be a plus.

-Experience modeling electrochemical or general transport-reaction processes

-Experience working across disciplines to prioritize work and to identify risks and opportunities.

-Ability to communicate complex electrochemistry concepts to technical staff from other disciplines.

-Experience with process scale-up and/or implementation of new technologies at industrial scale.

-Experience interpreting and post-processing industrial process data to understand system behaviors and system performance.

-Experience with databases (SQL, Python)

-Excellent Communication skills (written and spoken)

-The ability to be flexible and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment

-The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
