Under the direction of the VP of Operations, the Safety Coordinator has overall general responsibility for all Safety Management and Compliance for the Facility.


Advises Management on current regulatory issues and future trends, equipment and resources required to assure ongoing compliance of the facilities.

Maintain customers information system to assure the proper and timely distribution of product MSDS’s. Keep customers informed on MATERION Safety Management Systems and other related issues. Assist in writing and updating product MSDS’s.

Develop, implement and maintain Safety Management Systems, specifically OSHA VPP. Coordinate with all departments to provide supplies and services to ensure safe and healthy working conditions

Investigate and address safety problems. Monitor and inspect operations, equipment, facilities and work habits to detect hazardous conditions and practices, and recommend corrective or proactive actions to assure the safety of employees.

Keep current and interpret all Federal, State and Local Laws, Regulations Ordinance and Standards. Assure facilities compliance with all regulations. Analyze future regulatory trends and developments.

Oversee the management, handling storage and shipment of Hazardous Waste generated. Assure that all aspects of this management are in total compliance with all Federal, State and Local Laws.

Responsibility for the administration of Workers Compensation, Coordinates local medical providers, legal and TPA for each case, to insure cases are properly managed. Maintain OSHA Log 300 and supporting documentation.

Develop and Maintain programs for pre-placement, periodic medical examination and testing. Coordinate with Corporate Medical group on employee’s medical issues.

Develop and administer all OSHA required safety programs and VPP programs.

Develop Safety procedures and maintain the required documentation. Identify and provide safety training and information.

Select the appropriate scope and depth of training needed for individuals and departments.

Provide support and assistance to Department safety Meetings, including performing the required training for employees.

Prescribe safety clothing and personal protective equipment to be used in specific areas and tasks. Assure the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.

Maintain an adequate supply of safety equipment and supplies

Schedule and supervise the inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of all fire protection equipment and systems, on a planned periodic basis. Coordinate and arrange for the calibration on air monitoring systems.

Closely interact with Local, State and federal Regulatory Agencies to file for permits, for interpretation of regulations and to resolve regulatory issues.

Emergency Response; Responsibility/Activities, RCRA-SARA-OSHA:

Act as the Facility Emergency Coordinator

Maintain and implement the facility Emergency Response Plan

Insure the safety of plant personnel during emergency conditions

Initiate spill control, containment and clean-up operations

Evaluate hazards and determine when/if outside responders are needed

Notification and communication with government agencies as needed and required

Proper training of the Emergency Response Team, initial and continual

Assure adequate and correct supply of emergency equipment and supplies

Requires relevant education/experience generally equivalent to a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, plus 3-5 years related experience.

Minimum experience in Emergency Response or OSHA compliance. Familiarity with OSHA written programs and Industrial Hygiene.

COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Materion's computer software, as well as an understanding of MS Office word, excel and PowerPoint processing software and general reporting software/programs.
