National Grid Engineer Manager, Corrosion Control New England/Upstate NY in Waltham, Massachusetts
To develop and direct the implementation of the enterprise wide transmission and distribution corrosion control strategy ensuring the safe integrity of the transmission and distribution systems consistent with company objectives, strategies and policies and in full compliance with governmental codes and regulations.
Lead the identification and formulation of strategic objectives specific to gas transmission and distribution corrosion control and identify and deploy technical innovation in order to drive change, improve reliability, and manage risk at optimum cost.
Evaluate regulatory governance standards relevant to gas transmission and distribution corrosion control and engage in regulatory processes to influence (as warranted) pending legislation and regulations and develop processes and plans to ensure compliance.
Lead, motivate and develop a team of both professional, and collective bargaining unit personnel, prioritize work and allocate resources in order to ensure that corrosion control services are delivered in line with expectations and business objectives.
Translate corrosion control requirements into clearly defined business cases, budgets, and schedule in order to support achievement of both annual and long term O&M, and Capital plans.
Evaluate, and develop strategies on the impact of corrosion control requirements on rate case development and risks to facilitate the planning process and develop strategies to mitigate risk
Manage Corrosion control process activities in order to achieve high productivity, low costs and efficient work practices and to ensure compliance with National Grid policies and procedures.
Analyze and monitor the gas transmission and distribution system corrosion control performance to recommend corrective action, identify trends and continuously improve the efficiency and integrity of the system.
Develop and utilize a peer group network in order to absorb and apply technical best practice within corrosion control and program development.
_Knowledge & Experience Requirements:_
In-depth knowledge and technical experience of gas transmission and distribution systems corrosion control and demonstrates deep understanding of the issues impacting the energy industry sector.
Detailed knowledge and understanding of regulatory issues affecting gas transmission, and distribution integrity. Demonstrates the ability to anticipate obstacles and think ahead about next steps.
Detailed knowledge of safety policy, potential hazards, and regulatory issues affecting the industry.
A Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or science is required. Advance degree, Professional License (PE) or certification is a plus.
Evaluates and analyzes technical data relating to corrosion control, identifying trends which are not at first apparent, seeing multiple relationships, identifying several likely causes of corrosion issues and assessing the risks of a number of courses of action.
Investigates technical problems by digging deeper to establish the facts, asking probing questions and challenging initial responses from different sources
Influences colleagues and the regulators through effective communication, adapting the approach used and tailoring messages to deliver maximum impact.
Actively builds and maintains a network of relationships across functions, with peers in other organizations within the industry and with the regulators and utilizes these contacts to keep abreast of best practice and build mutual trust.
Promotes team effectiveness by soliciting input from team members, providing technical and performance coaching, communicating expectations of the team and delegating responsibilities while providing support and structure
