Town of Southbridge Solid Waste/Recycling Monitor PT in Southbridge, Massachusetts
SUMMARY: The Town of Southbridge is seeking to fill 2 part-time SOLID WASTE/RECYCLING MONITOR positions who will work under the direction of the Director Inspectional Services and Health Inspector/Solid Waste and Recycling Coordinator and be responsible for investigating complaints affecting the general public violations of the State sanitary code, State environment and local Board of Health regulations, and Town by-laws with concerns about solid waste and recycling; 15 hrs./wk.; \$23.92 hr. DUTIES: \ Assist in the development and implementation of the Town recycling programs \ Observe and investigate violations of the Town\'s curbside solid waste rules and regulations \ Contact any offenders, if determined, and educate on proper procedures \ Maintain records of violations and violators \ Recognize repeat offenders and initiate pre-approved enforcement actions such as written warnings \ Advise Supervisor of non-responsive/non-compliant persons; propose to Supervisor further enforcement necessary \ Promote the Town\'s curbside Toter Program and any other curbside solid waste program being instituted by the Town \ Monitor transfer station when applicable \ Deliver toters to citizens, repairs, etc. and maintain records of deliveries completed \ Regularly walk, stand, hear, and use fingers to handle or feel; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; reach with hands or arms, taste or smell; view computer screens and work with detail on a computer, copier, telephone, and calculator; and move objects up to 60 lbs. \ Make independent judgements and take initiative while performing field work and gathering and interpreting data \ Majority of work is performed outdoors with exposure to extremes of heat and cold weather situations \ Perform similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates REQUIREMENTS: \ High School Diploma/GED \ Valid Class D Driver License \ Experience in public relations or public outreach helpful \ Must have extensive knowledge of the solid waste and recycling industry, technology math (able to estimate percentages of loads for compliance with waste ban laws), and basic English skills related to report writing \ Must have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate effectively and efficiently verbally and written with tact at all times \ Must be skilled in operating a computer, camera, automobile and light truck \ Must be able to work effectively under time constraints to meet deadlines \ Bilingual language is a plus \ Must be able to pass CORI check, drug test, and physical \ Please send resume to hr@southbridgemass.org
