Teledyne Marine Systems Mechanical Engineer in North Falmouth, Massachusetts

Teledyne Marine Systems is seeking a seasoned mid-level Mechanical Engineer to join our growing development team. This position will involve engineering support for existing products, customizing equipment for new applications, and new product development. The desired applicant will possess a strong background in mechanical design as well as a working knowledge of software and electrical disciplines. Essential Duties: Be the lead in preparing concepts and detailed electro-mechanical designs for oceanographic instruments and vehicles With minimal supervision, perform moderate-to-complex engineering computations to justify design approaches Plan and prepare structural analyses using FEA software; and prepare and revise CAD drawings including parts and assemblies Perform hands-on construction of prototypes and accelerated life testing Initiate Mechanical investigations and develop corrective actions. Investigate alternate parts, collect data, and prepare moderate-to-complex trade studies Interact with managers, peer engineers, and program personnel. Attend project meetings and participate in presentations to groups Requirements: BSME degree from four-year college or university; 5 years related experience and/or training in the mechanical engineering field; or equivalent combination of education and experience Electro-mechanical system design experience Advanced SolidWorks design experience and structural analysis (FEA) A strong desire for hands-on work with hardware in the lab and production environments including prototype fabrication, evaluation, and transition to manufacturing Experienced in documentation requirements for manufacturing Clear, effective communication skills and the ability to clearly capture knowledge gained including analyses that describe design trade studies and technical concepts Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, datasheets, and material specifications Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, sales representatives, and other Teledyne business units Must be able to travel when required to support equipment and sales opportunities (travel will be limited) Ability to obtain Security Clearance Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen Preferred: Master's Degree Knowledge of oceanographic instruments and vehicles Knowledge of marine material selection criteria including strength, corrosion resistance, and anodizing Knowledge of syntactic foams, plastics, urethanes, and glass
