Waters Corporation is seeking a Lead Technical Editor with experience editing technical or scientific content to join our organization. In this role, the individual will edit Waters' technical content, coordinate freelance editing resources, and contribute to the maintenance of Waters' style guidelines and terminology. This individual will take direction from the Content Strategist and will work closely with content developers and other technical editors. The ideal candidate will demonstrate mastery of English stylistic and linguistic conventions while possessing the flexibility to adapt their editorial approach to accommodate project requirements and business considerations.
Edit technical content for a global audience.
Coordinate freelance editing resources (traffic management, resource allocation).
Ensure that Waters technical content conforms to legal, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional project teams by attending meetings and interacting with content developers, project managers, and localization team members.
Mentor and train content developers to improve their writing skills and ensure their conformance to style and terminology guidelines.
Contribute to the maintenance and enforcement of Waters' style guidelines and technical terminology.
Help to mediate disputes on matters of style and terminology.
Acquire knowledge of Waters products.
Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, the physical or natural sciences, or engineering related fields of study preferred. Commensurate experience is acceptable
5+ years experience performing copy, developmental, and proof editing for technical or scientific content, preferably in a regulated environment
Demonstrated mastery of English grammar and stylistic conventions
Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style, Microsoft Manual of Style, and ACS Style Guide
Excellent project management skills
Experience editing content for localization
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with writers, editors, and subject matter experts, and to represent the Waters Customer Experience and Knowledge Management organization in a professional manner
A keen understanding of how the editorial process impacts project costs and timelines, and the ability and willingness to balance business requirements with linguistic and stylistic considerations
Experience with terminology management
Familiarity with machine-editing technologies (Acrolinx, Author Assistant) and content management systems (SDL LiveContent a plus)
Technologically savvy, with the ability and willingness to adapt to new tools and processes
