Dell is seeking a Corporate Sustainability Strategist to join us in building a Legacy of Good.

Position Summary

The Strategist will support the overarching sustainability strategy for the corporation. S/He will work closely with Dell’s various business units and corporate functions contributing to the development and implementation of its Dell business objectives and goals. The Strategist will participate in the measurement and reporting of Dell’s performance against sustainability goals and strategies and ensure the implementation of management systems necessary to support these programs. This may include writing and submitting responses for independent reporting and standards organizations and fostering external relationships with key contacts at these organizations.

The Strategist will be responsible for conducting business landscape research to inform the development of the organization’s long-term strategy. Business landscape research will include engagement with a variety of individuals and groups including: customers, competitors, industry leaders, futurists, trade associations, and governments. S/He will research the key trends, requirements, regulations, and best practices that will shape the future of sustainability as well as impact Dell’s ability to meet current and future customer needs. The Strategist will utilize this research to inform the development and implementation of social and environmental policies and programs.

S/he will function as a representative of the Corporate Sustainability team and may give presentations internally to business units and corporate functions as well as externally at various events. The Strategist should be comfortable with public speaking and networking on behalf of Dell.

The position can be based at one of Dell’s primary offices in Austin, Texas, or Hopkinton, Massachusetts, and will report to the VP of Corp. Sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy and Leadership. Drive Dells efforts to develop a long-term strategy and framework to create value, protect the brand, and mitigate risk. Work closely with the Leadership Team to develop plans that fulfill these expectations.

  • Best Practices. Advise the leadership on global best practices. Monitor and analyze the strategies, policies and programs of other Fortune 500 companies.

  • Risk/Benefit Analysis. Assist in assessing the business risks and opportunities with respect to Sustainability. Assess, prioritize, monitor and address potential challenges and risks.

  • Policy and Program Development. In collaboration with key internal stakeholders across business units and functions, support the development and execution of policies and programs relating to sustainability. Closely align with existing Operations, and Government Relations efforts around human rights and legislative activities.

  • Goals, Measurement and Reporting. In collaboration with senior leadership, develop appropriate goals and metrics for measuring the sustainability performance of the organization. Determine reporting-related organizational goals, processes, infrastructure and schedules.

  • External Engagement. Lead and participate in external engagements for select groups that will contribute to the development of Dell’s long-term strategy. Build strategic alliances and coalitions with key constituency groups and influencers.

  • Business Integration. Develop Sustainability capabilities within the organization. Educate and link different groups and functions. Ensure the implementation of policies, strategies and programs on a global basis.

Representation & Communications. Represent the company in relevant outside organizations and venues. Work effectively with the internal and external public relations and communications teams to advance the company’s reputation with respect to Dell programs.

  • Typically requires 5+ years related experience in a professional role with multinational corporation, NGO, or Public Entity business environment.

  • Bachelor's degree in science/math related topic, and advanced degree preferred, but optional.

  • Strong engagement skills that can interact with senior level management, and drive alignment across a complex, and matrixed organization.

  • Business acumen, and deep understanding of ICT sector
