This is a military technician position with the US Army Reserves. About the Position:

*This position is located at:* 99th Regional Support Command(RSC), Equipment Concentration Site (ECS 65), Fort Devens, Ayer, Massachusetts.

Description of the Working Environment: Work is performed in a maintenance shop setting.

Duties
  • Troubleshoot, repair, modify and maintain a variety of heavy mobile equipment such as construction, industrial, engineer, combat, tactical, and powered support equipment. Equipment may include bulldozers, graders, tractors, trucks, tracked recovery vehicles, ambulances, generators and forklifts.
  • Perform scheduled services on a wide range of automotive, construction, engineer and combat equipment.
  • Perform initial and in-process inspections; perform mechanical diagnostics and troubleshoot to localize defects and determine cause of malfunction.
  • Remove and repair major systems or components of equipment to include power packs, transmissions, transfers, gear reduction units, injector pumps, air conditioners, fuel pumps and alternators.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance on defective parts.
  • Perform minor body work.
  • Provide technical assistance to unit personnel.
  • Operate motor vehicles to perform the duties of this position.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the screen-out element described below.

Screen-Out Element:

Ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer, WG-5803-09, without more than normal supervision. You must meet the screen out element to be considered further. To meet the screen out element, you should document experience or show the ability to do the following: troubleshoot, modify, maintain, and repair heavy mobile equipment to include major systems, components, parts and accessories; interpret manuals and diagrams to determine the best repair method; conduct various operational test to perform final inspection.

Physical Effort:

Work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing and crouching. You will work on top of, under, or in tight compartments of equipment in cramped and awkward positions. You will frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds and often exert similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning part assemblies and equipment. You will occasionally lift heavier items with assistance of other workers or lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. Work is sometimes performed from ladders or work platforms at varying heights.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed inside and occasionally outside. You must frequently stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time. You will be exposed to drafts, dirt, grease, oils and vehicle fumes. You will be exposed to some inclement weather such as wind and rain and be subject to burns, cuts, scrapes, bruises and strains.
