    Job Description

TECHNICAL PRODUCTION SPECIALIST, Music and Theater Arts Section-Theater Arts Program (https://mta.mit.edu/theater-arts/about) , to be responsible for the smooth realization of all technical aspects of program events in close coordination with the director of production. This includes the fabrication of scenery; coordinating the installation of pre-fabricated scenic elements; acting as an onsite specialist for live events; ensuring that standards of safety are observed in production, performance, and classroom settings; and playing a leading role in training and coordinating students who are engaged in technically oriented aspects of the program. Will contribute to the ongoing development of the program by providing organization, expertise, and leadership in the coordination and execution of all technical aspects of production; complete the day-to-day maintenance and administration of the equipment and facilities at Building W97; and mentor students. Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; three years’ field experience in technical direction, production management, or scenic design; advanced-level expertise and in-depth understanding of scenic fabrication processes, particularly carpentry and rigging, and theater safety practices; fluency in Vectorworks or other applicable CAD programs; working knowledge of/desire to learn following: scenic automation, video design and engineering, lighting design and engineering, sound design and audio engineering, costume design and construction, and wardrobe; valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one in the first six-months of employment; discretion and good judgment with confidential/sensitive issues; and ability to work effectively in a primarily unsupervised, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.
