Shire Global Program Management Lead in Cambridge, Massachusetts
The Global Program Management Lead (GPM) is responsible for managing the operational, planning, and decision-making processes in less complex Global Product Teams (GPT) and driving activities and being a team member in more complex GPTs at Shire. The GPM works closely with the Global Development Lead (GDL) and the Product Strategy Lead (PSL). The GPM also works to ensure the cross-functional teams operate effectively with positive Global team dynamics.
As a key member of GPT, the GPM is expected to be knowledgeable about the overall development program in order to be strategic in planning, team management and process management. The GPM achieves this by delivering high quality program management support and other high value services that supports the team and improves the probability of program success.
The GPM will be responsible for actively working with the GDL and PSL to manage the operational, planning and decision-making aspects of the GPT (generally, less complex programs) to ensure strong alignment between product strategy and operational execution.

The GPM works closely with EPT/LPT members to ensure timely completion of deliverables required to ensure robust and balanced cross-functional planning, decision-making, implementation and monitoring of global programs
Working closely with their manager and/or senior PM on the program but with minimal direct routine supervision responsible for providing best in class operations and program management.
Works with GDL/PSL to facilitate the elaboration, approval and execution of the global program strategy.
Coordinate and drive operational planning activities of the GPT including Strategic Product Plans (SPP), Target Product Profile, Long Range Plan, Life Cycle Management Plan, Geographical Expansion Plan, Business Cases, Competitive Landscape assessment and IP assessment ensuring alignment to program strategy.
Maintain the overall SPP
Collaborate with GDL, PSL and GPT functional team members to ensure coordinated evaluation of product opportunities/ scenarios and development of comprehensive integrated recommendations (e.g., to Governance Committees) and strategic and operational product plans based on program defined objectives and priorities.
Work independently to provide best-in-class operations and program management expertise to drive GPT members towards excellence in execution of plans i.e.
Develop, maintain and track robust, cross-functionally aligned program timelines (development and launches)
Facilitate collection, alignment and validation of program budget ensuring alignment to program strategy
Lead and facilitate cross-functional team meetings (agendas, minutes, tracking actions, etc.)
Facilitate team goal setting and tracking to ensure adherence to plan and strategy, and end of year team evaluation process
Develop and manage a program risk register
Coordinate GPT communications to ensure team member alignment
Issue and present reports to senior management on a routine basis
Promote visibility and transparency of information within the GPT, across GPT sub-teams and other forums to accelerate decision making, obtain alignment, and increase foundational knowledge, identify and communicate product and LPT related objectives, issues, risks, and where applicable, facilitate cross-GPT discussion on impact
Provide clear direction on product development requirements to meet expectations of external customers and business stakeholders
Facilitate preparations and analyses of GPT business reviews and routine evaluation processes, and progress against GPT strategy and action plans
Serve as strong objective advisor to GDL and PSL to maximize team effectiveness
Be responsible for making decisions regarding the appropriate risk when there is substantial program impact
Work with GDL/PSL to establish common decision processes & criteria for key decisions, e.g. go/no go criteria and stage-gate decisions.
Reinforce team operating principles to maximize alignment within the team and with other functions.

Education and Experience
Minimum of 7+ years of experience in drug development in a pharmaceutical environment and/or Minimum of 5 years of cross-functional program management experience in managing a diversity of therapeutic areas and multiple stages of development and commercialization of prescription drug products.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex cross-functional teams and processes and work without routine supervision to deliver key accountabilities.
Strong understanding of the business environment and relevant key strategic and operational drivers. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent proficiency a plus
Knowledge and understanding of global drug development and commercialization in the pharmaceutical industry.
Strong understanding and competency in planning processes and decision making
Demonstrated experience using standard program management tools and software including integrated development plans, timelines, risk management, and budget development and monitoring
BS in scientific discipline, or MBA with relevant pharmaceutical industry experience

In-depth knowledge and use of Microsoft Project; demonstrated versatility in operations / program management tools to facilitate functional and geographic collaboration
Fluency (spoken and written) in English
