Job Description

EVENTS COORDINATOR, Music and Theater Arts (MTA), to administer MTA Events Office functions and personnel in support of the concert series, section-sponsored conferences, visiting artist residencies, and academic performance programs. These presently include three Theater Arts productions, nine large ensembles, and twenty-eight chamber groups; the Emerson Program for Private Study; and the MITHAS series and concerts featuring the foregoing, plus faculty, visiting artists, composer forums, symposia, and other events totaling over 100 during the academic year. Will also oversee communications for the section including MTA website, publicity, social media, press relations, internal and external communications, and print and electronic publications; manage Killian Hall operations, including its scheduling, rental, and maintenance; and maintain strong, positive, and productive relationships on behalf of MTA with other MIT departments and various external entities.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in performing arts; minimum of five years’ experience in the arts including supervisory and administration experience; relevant work experience in ensemble management, event production, budgeting, accounting, proposal writing, desktop publishing, communications, publicity, and press relations; experience managing facilities; a history of building collegiality both within the program and in the larger world; very strong computer skills and fluency with programs for desktop publishing (Adobe Creative). Must be a good listener who is willing and eager to implement ideas that come from others, has a record of leadership among staff and faculty, and can implement ideas that enhance the mandate of the arts. Seek someone with first-hand experience as an artist in music or theater arts who can inform sensitive decision making. Experience in higher education a plus. Job #14975-N
