Job Title: Big Data Software Engineer

Job Description

The Big Data Software Engineer works on innovative applications of emerging software technologies, and thrives in a semi-autonomous environment where fast prototyping of emerging technologies to meet new challenges is the rule. The role involves developing web services designs and software, and understanding schedulers, workload management, availability, scalability, and distributed data platforms. The position reports to the Project Manager.

Successful Big Data software engineers are analytical thinkers who have good architecture design skills, clean code programming practices, and experience with product development and build processes. They are confident to code in several programming languages including Java, Python, and C#. With a strong understanding of software development strategy as well as good communication and presentation skills, they functioning well independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

Identifies and keeps abreast of novel technical concepts and markets.

Assists in identifying and organizing technical requirements and specifications.

Builds prototypes, products, and systems suitable for testing and sets up and runs lab simulations.

Develops and executes tests for benchmarking purposes and system quality.

Evaluates technical strategic approaches and risks to produce development plans that ensure high quality and cost effective products and systems.

Promotes internal knowledge sharing throughout the organization that may include user training development.

Actively supports industry recognition and positioning of technologies via authoring technical reports, papers, articles and patents.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree in science or engineering with software experience or education.

Core competencies in NoSQL technologies: MongoDB, Cassandra, Couchbase, neo4j, and orientDB.

Understanding of RDBMS is also desired.

U

nderstanding of Hadoop ecosystem internals and development, Map Reduce, HBase, Cassandra, Spark, and Storm.

Experience with public cloud IaaS and PaaS storage technologies including Google Cloud, Azure, and AWS.

Familiarity with data transformation and integration tools and technologies including JSON, data flow, and Kafka.
