DNV GL Head of Section - DER Wholesale in Burlington, Massachusetts
DNV GL is seeking a dynamic leader for its growing consulting practice in the Distributed Energy Resources/Wholesale Energy (DER) section of the Markets and Policy Development Department. In this role you will lead and expand DNV GL’s business around wholesale energy markets, development in generation, microgrids, energy storage and emerging technologies in their applications within the utility and related industries. You will work collaboratively with many other parts of DNV GL to support business development and project execution. Additional responsibilities include acting as a thought leader on emerging technologies and trends around DERs; building and maintaining client relationships and supporting the development and implementation of innovative analytical solutions for internal and external clients. The Head of Section will manage the DER team including supervision and career development of staff and acting as sponsor and manager of consulting projects. This role requires a deep expertise in at least one of the following areas and a sound knowledge of the other:
Emerging technology and business models for DERs
Integrated Resource Planning or distribution system planning/operations
The design and validation of integrated generation, storage and distribution systems
Strategic and cost modelling for the above items
Tasks May Include
Drive expansion of business opportunities in the area of emerging technologies and business practices, including but not limited to distributed energy resources, electricity storage, microgrids and volt/var management
Provide thought leadership and marketing support, including attending and presenting at conferences, writing articles and contributing to marketing campaigns
Drive business development by setting business development goals and initiatives with the team, supporting their implementation and leading efforts to reach targets
Have ultimate responsibility for project delivery and quality towards the customer as project sponsor on consulting engagements
Continuously develop and support expertise of the team by providing technical leadership, develop research and mentoring team members within the areas of DERs, emerging technologies and utility best practices
Provide industry thought leadership and act as a partner to our clients and teams in setting new strategic directions and identifying and understanding trends in the market as they develop
Strategically grow the business in response market developments using the knowledge and capabilities of the team
Deliver knowledge of industry trends, including advances in technology and the resulting impact on managing business
Ensure that consulting engagements and professionals meet the guiding principles as established by DNV GL ENERGY
Screen, recruit, and develop professional talent
Provide and support consulting services to clients
Conduct employee reviews and plan and support career growth and development of team
Develop business unit growth and strategic plans to achieve long term growth objectives
Foster the development of analytics to support consulting offerings
Act as the key executive client contact and engage our clients by phone and in person, including business travel to facilitate meetings
What We're Seeking
At least 5 years of experience in the electricity sector
Bachelors level education or higher in business, engineering, statistics or economics
A track record of successfully developing or expanding a practice area in consulting
Excellent collaboration skills and experience in leading cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams
Expertise in distributed energy resources, including electricity storage, distributed generation and microgrids
Excellent writing and communications skills
Working knowledge of energy policy and regulatory landscape and their impact on decisions for key customers such as utilities, transmission and distribution owners, and DER developers
Strong math and modeling skills, and ability to provide technical oversight of improvements in internal simulation and optimization tools.
Proven QHSE mindset
Willingness to travel on a consistent and frequent basis within the Americas
We conduct pre-employment background check and drug screens
Masters level education or higher in business, engineering, statistics or economics
Direct experience of developing analytical tools in applications such as MATLAB
Deep understanding of one or more DER technologies
Experience in designing or implementing storage solutions or microgrids
