As a Principal Investigator you will lead business development through all phases of its lifecycle, from brainstorming and conceptualization, to presenting and selling innovative technical solutions to potential new customers through crafting and development of winning proposals - and ultimately to project technical leadership. You will establish government, industrial, and academic partnerships to leverage and complement our capabilities and build winning collaborative teams. You will focus on human-machine teaming and trusted autonomy and automation, promoting systems that enable people and computers to work together, that leverage and steer complex "back-end" algorithms through intuitive, easy-to-use interfaces, with a goal to support human decision making and collaboration across a diversity of domains.

Intelligent Adaptive Systems (IAS) is a directorate within the BAE Systems Technology Solutions Fusion, Battle Management, and Computing technology group (TS FBC). We are an entrepreneurial organization that focuses on R&D in computer science and artificial intelligence. We are based in Burlington, MA, and are part of a 1979 MIT spin-out company that was acquired by BAE Systems in 2004, which has since grown to more than 300 researchers, system engineers, and software developers, over 70 percent of whom hold advanced engineering and science degrees.

Minimum Education And Experience

Bachelor's Degree and 15 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills And Education

  • Ph.D. degree and 10 years work experience, Master's degree and 13 years of work experience, Bachelor's degree and 15 years of work experience, or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in the business development lifecycle, culminating in crafting winning proposals with customers interested in human-machine teaming, autonomous and semi-autonomous systems. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading proposal writing and submission from story boarding throughcritical organization reviews

  • Leading proposal writing and submission from story boarding throughcritical organization reviews

  • Introductory discussions to establish customer interest in a research topic

  • Shaping to influence the structure of new program starts

  • Ability to work with internal and external collaborators to form a winning team

  • Demonstrated technical leadership with strong written and communication skills:

  • Experience in preparing highly technical briefs for DoD and IC customers (e.g., DARPA, IARPA, AFRL); commensurate experience with similar customer base will be considered.

  • Experience in CRAD program planning and execution.

  • Highly respected in science and technology (S&T) academic communities, with strong leadership in relevant professional community as demonstrated through one or more of the following:

  • Publication record

  • Program/review committees

  • Standards participation

  • Invited talks/panels

  • Patents

  • Strong knowledge of the Artificial Intelligence (AI), Computer Science (CS), or Computational Social Science research and academic space with expertise in one or more of the following:

  • human-machine teaming

  • trust in autonomy

  • machine learning

  • computer-supported cooperative work

  • social computing

  • natural language processing

  • perception, learning and memory

  • Eligible for a SECRET clearance
