The Business Development Manager is responsible for leading the development of new business plans/strategies for both new and existing businesses. Primary duties to include, but are not limited to:
Leads the analysis of current and projected product lines to determine optimal business strategy.
Oversees research, analysis and the development of recommendations on the external environment as part of the development of strategic business plans.
Analyzes major competitor strategies.
Identifies and monitors changing patterns of competition and recommends response.
Acquires and maintains data/information on market, industry, economic, consumer and competitive conditions and trends pertaining to health insurance/managed care and related services.
Consolidates data, analyses and recommendations into concise business plans.
Develops and implements project plans and oversees project resources.
Leads the activities of lower level staff performing related functions.
The Business Development Director is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the development of new business areas which complements existing offerings. Primary duties to include, but are not limited to:
Analyzes market trends, proposes new product/service initiatives, and coordinates with the Marketing/Product Innovation area to implement products.
Provides oversight and resources to key projects.
Develops business plans and formulates strategies for both new and existing businesses.
Provides research, analysis and recommendations on the external environment as part of the development of strategic plans for the business unit.
Analyzes major competitor strategies.
Identifies and monitors changing patterns of competition and recommends responses.
Plans, directs, and controls the resources and efforts of the reporting and data analysis team to accomplish the business objectives through information management.
Obtains resources (people, funding, material, support) to support the business unit information needs and strategic initiatives.
Provides leadership in motivating indirect subordinates to accomplish reporting and data analysis goals and objectives.
Reports project status and progress to VP segment business and other management.
Acts as a liaison to other BUs/companies.
Implements product/operational changes resulting from changing legislation/regulations.
TheBusiness Development Manager / Directorrole requires:
BA/BS degree; 5-7 years (8 – 10 years for the Director role) of business development experience including 7 years of healthcare related experience (plus 5 years of direct/indirect leadership responsibilities for the Director role); or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Masters degree preferred.
Ability to travel may be required.
Organizational, analytical, facilitation, consultation, negotiation, persuasion and project management skills required for the Director Level.
