People Technology is a place where we innovate in recruiting, developing people, and improving practices as well as core HR technology- for example, PeopleTech’s part-time initiative in Seattle is an experiment in ways to be able to support Amazon employees who require more flexibility than is afforded by a full-time schedule.

At the new PeopleTech branch in Boston, we are hiring a Senior Technical Program Manager with entrepreneurial spirit to get in on the ground floor of this highly visible opportunity. The Senior Technical Program Manager is a critical focal point to our world-wide stakeholders, managing all aspects of project implementations and scaling Amazon’s Global HR platforms to meet our growing needs. This includes managing programs that help thousands of employees be productive, delivering implementations that allow our systems to scale with Amazon's growth, and partnering with experts and peers across the globe to execute on projects. The individual’s responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide technical and leadership guidance to personnel to ensure timely delivery of work with high quality. In addition, provide personnel with timely, constructive, and actionable feedback that increases individual and team effectiveness.

  • Assign a wide range of tasks based on skills, experience, and availability; clearly communicate task priorities, helping personnel adjust workload as needed.

  • Prepare schedules, reports and budgets. Track and monitor all deliverables, calendars and meetings as necessary. Set performance goals for support team or work unit.

  • Monitor team and/or personnel performance, checking actual performance against planned performance, to ensure technical, schedule, and budget goals are met or exceeded.

  • Collect inputs and prepare status reports as required. Explain any deviations from planned budgets and schedules. In addition, prepare and support quarterly management reviews.

  • Anticipate problems or situations that could affect the customer and/or the team. Assess the potential impact on own and others’ work, and determine best work solution.

  • Interact frequently with team, management and customers to define project requirements and identify solutions consistent with defined terms, policy, and regulations.

  • 5+ years of Technical Program Management experience in a related industry

  • 3+ years experience supporting or implementing software development projects

  • Bachelor's degree/equivalent experience in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field

  • A first-hand working knowledge of current web technologies

  • Experience with business applications such as Word and Excel

  • Experience managing efforts involving distributed systems and/or large scale web applications

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Track record for being detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to self-motivate and follow through on projects
