The Center for the Study of Nutrition and Medicine in the Department of Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking applicants for a Clinical Nutritional Research Scientist position. Candidates must have a doctorate level degree in nutrition. Registered dietitian nutritionists are preferred. A track record of clinical trial experience, including writing protocols, submitting forms to the Institutional Review Board (IRB), patient accrual, data collection, supervising research assistants, data analysis, and manuscript preparation is essential. The ideal candidate should have a record of high quality, peer-reviewed publications as well as the ability to lead and work with multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will join an existing Center team of business manager and assistant for the program, surgeons, PhDs scientists, and research assistants. The successful candidate for this position may be considered for Harvard Medical School appointment as Instructor, commensurate with experience, achievements, and teaching contributions

Incumbent in this position may be in the entry to more senior level at varying degrees of independence. Must have been awarded or have completed the requirements for a doctoral degree or foreign equivalent.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conducts clinical research in area of specialty.

  • Follows patient care protocol manual standards in order to maintain a safe workplace environment.

  • Works independently as well as collaborates with other research staff members to complete projects and develop research methods related to the projects.

  • Interacts respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.

  • May supervise, orient and/or train staff; ensures compliance to lab safety guidelines and accurate record keeping. May oversee lab equipment needs, inventory and the ordering of common lab supplies.

  • Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities. Has authority to undertake or recommend the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews. Direct Reports: 4-6 Indirect Reports: None

  • Assists in planning, monitoring and/or managing budget in functional area of department.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree required.

  • 0-1 years related work experience required and 0-1 years supervisory/management experience required

  • Prior experience in Human Subject Research, both recruiting subject and retrospective studies

  • CITI training and ability to supervise staff to the HIPAA and Responsible Conduct in Human Subject Research.

  • Advanced technical computer skills as required for technical support specific to functional area and related systems.

Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
