Joslin Diabetes Center Associate Director, Clinical Education Programs (RN) in Boston, Massachusetts
The Associate Director, Clinical Education Programs (Nurse) is an advanced expert in diabetes education, staff development and program management who will play a leadership role in the work and activities of the Education and Care Alliances within the Joslin Diabtes Center.
These activities include Joslin’s Affiliates, Care Alliances, Advisory contracts as well as Education programs, both with the US and Internationally. This position will work in close collaboration with key staff in the Joslin Clinic, and other programs within Joslin Innovations.
Travel is required. (estimated at 40%)
Leads the Joslin Innovation team on clinical and education related activities to maintain existing customer programs and services and to establish new programs and services, and bring experience and creativity to bear in all programs and business development activities. Working with the Director, Care Programs and other leadership, develops and evaluates proposals for new external collaboration projects such as advisory or care alliance services to health systems, and corporate education initiatives.
Responsible for writing and helping coordinate all written proposals and reports for external engagements of Joslin where clinical education, care protocols, guidelines on nutrition, exercise and other care elements are involved.
Assesses the clinical and educational needs of both inpatient and outpatient aspects of Education and Care Alliances(domestic and international) and develops and implements plans to meet those needs, including patient education and staff development. A particular emphasis on inpatient knowledge of diabetes care would be a plus.
Collaborates with other groups within Joslin to ensure that policies, products and services are reviewed, updated and distributed on a timely basis.
Along with members of the Innovation team, reviews requests for new educational material and/or initiates new innovative program ideas based on needs and trends and oversees its development and implementation.
Serves as a key liaison for assigned domestic and international care programs. Responsible for operational and communication functions with assigned external engagements, which includes problem identification and resolution through phone meetings, travel to sites to ensure quality of program and client satisfaction and preparation of summary visit reports.
Remains current and up to date with ADA and AADE standards for recognition and accreditation and gives input to (and participates with) quality initiatives conducted within the department and within Care Programs (such as chart audits or time studies). Remains current in the latest diabetes education issues to provide leading edge programs/ products to customers.
Travel to domestic and international Care or Education Programs for business development, assessment visits as well as quality oversite visits. Contributes to (as well as leads) written client reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
Assesses training needs for diabetes educators and clinical staff in both inpatient and outpatient settings at engagement sites, develops curricula and implements programs to meet those needs (conference calls, education summit meetings, self-learning modules, etc.)
Leads client and business development meetings and generates ideas (based on familiarity with existing products and research) that might best meet client interests.
Develops collaborative relationships with Joslin Clinic educators and other staff of Joslin to keep abreast of new programs and materials.
Contributes to the business operations of the department by reviewing P&L statements, contributing to the budget planning for proposed initiatives, and overseeing that clinical and education activities are managed within budget.
Diabetes Educator (CDE preferred)
Degree (Master's preferred) in clinical field: Registered Nurse
Minimum 7 years’ experience in direct diabetes care with emphasis on patient education
Experience in inpatient glycemic management, both directly and in program implementation
Experience with data collection, database and spreadsheets a plus
Management experience in a medical clinic, such as being a diabetes education program coordinator preferred
International diabetes education experience preferred
Current license in specialty area (i.e. Registered Nurse)
Familiarity with diabetes technologies to best work with diabetes tech clients
Excellent skills in writing, curriculum design, educational materials development (including PowerPoint), speaking; experience publishing and giving presentations at national meetings preferred
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, presentation and writing skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on multiple tasks
Fluency in a second language a significant plus (especially Spanish, Arabic or Chinese)
