American Science and Engineering, an OSI Systems Company is seeking a Mechanical Designer II in its Billerica, MA Facility.

  • Participate in a multi-discipline project team, developing, maintaining and improving products.

  • Generate complex mechanical and electro-mechanical layout, sketches, and notes with minimum direction.

  • Present design proposals at formal design reviews.

  • Checks to complete layouts, drawings, ECO’s and BOM’s for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specification and accuracy of calculations, dimensioning and tolerancing.

  • Experience in a “Model Only” or “model Based Design” environment (ANSI Y14.41).

  • Investigate, recommend and assist in material selection and manufacturing process decisions of each piece part, mechanism and structure.

  • Coordinate with other internal departments affected by design development.

  • Maintain technical coordination with engineer and project team.

  • Meet project goals, particularly functionality, manufacturability, reliability and cost goals.

  • Participate in the formation and adherence of general policies, standards and procedures in the department.

  • Investigate and recommend tools and technology enhancements as required.

  • May provide work leadership, training to lower level employees.

  • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.

  • Associates degree or equivalent, ASME preferred.

  • Minimum 8 years mechanical design experience.

  • Possess the ability to contribute to standards and design work policies.

  • Requires several years' experience with CAD mechanical design in 2D, 3D and solid modeling.

  • Familiar with most manufacturing methods.

  • Must possess solid communication and team work skills.

  • Must be US Persons based on ITAR definition (US Citizen or Permanent Resident)*
